Dr Paul Davies – Consultant Stroke Physician, Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle

Dr. Paul Davies BSc. (Hons) MD FRCP (Consultant Stroke Physician, North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust) completed undergraduate training in Medicine at University of Wales College of Medicine in 1987. He completed his early postgraduate training in South Wales before moving to Newcastle and Carlisle for further training. He completed an MD thesis at the University of Newcastle with research into the relationship between snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea and risk of first-ever stroke. He was appointed as a Consultant Physician at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle in 1999 and took a lead role in the development of the Stroke Service including one-stop TIA clinics, the Acute Stroke Unit, and Thrombolysis for acute ischaemic stroke. He was joint clinical lead for stroke for the Cardiac and Stroke Networks in Lancashire and Cumbria and had a leading role in the development  and operation and governance of the Telestroke service for Cumbria and Lancashire. He is now trying to develop a hyper-acute stroke unit for North Cumbria. Outside medicine he enjoys walking and watching rugby.
