We have been made aware of the following road works which will cause road disruption and delays in the Eden Valley area. Please ensure you read this important information so you are aware how this may impact on your journey and can make any necessary adjustments to your usual route.

A66 Eden Valley Road Improvement Project

Commencing on Friday 7th September 2018 and continuing until Monday 22nd October 2018, there is going to be a major road improvement project taking place in the Eden valley.

A66 Kirkby Thore

It will involve closing a stretch of the A66 near Kirkby Thore at weekends only. The road closure will commence every Friday night at 2200hrs and continue through the entire weekend until 0300hrs on the Monday morning.

The work will mean a complete closure of the A66 at Low Moor (just east of Temple Sowerby) to Kirkby Thore where road restructuring and resurfacing will be taking place. This section of road will be completely closed at weekends, (in both directions) for the entire duration of the work.

Kemplay Roundabout (by the hospital)

At the same time as the above road closure, Highways England will also be carrying out road resurfacing work at a number of locations in the locality and outskirts of Penrith. These locations include the A66 Kemplay
Roundabout and spurs (by the hospital) along with similar work on J40 – M6 , Skirsgill roundabout. We believe Kemplay will still be useable, small sections will be closed which may lead to some delays.

Skirsgill Roundabout (by North Lakes Hotel)

Resurfacing work will commence at J40 – M6 Skirsgill roundabout from Saturday 29th September 2018 , with similar weekend timings as above, for the next four consecutive weekends. We understand from the engineer that in respect of this scheduled work, they will be closing the entire roundabout, with no entry or exit possible to or from the motorway. The nearest access to the M6 during the closure will be via J41 (Wigton/Stoneybeck junction).

For all works noted above appropriate ‘diversional’ signage will be in place, however heavy traffic congestion and delays in and around Penrith will be inevitable.

A text alert service is available by registering on the following mobile number: 07860048333 (A66 Eden Valley text alert service). We encourage all members of staff that may be affected by the project to register to receive up-to-date text messages on the current state of the road works/closures.

Nigel Winter has already registered both the Penrith mobiles, Red 3 and Red 7, to receive the updates and Penrith drivers are aware. Details are also on display in the resource room at Penrith hospital.
