On Tuesday 22nd May 2018 a team of runners will run the length of Hadrian’s Wall between Wallsend and Carlisle Castle.  The team is made up of doctors, nurses and other NHS employees and family members from Penrith Hospital Minor Injuries Unit and Cumbria Health on Call.

These organisations care for out of hours patients across Cumbria.  The caring profession understands that many patients and their families require ongoing support beyond their initial treatment and that this is often given by charitable organizations.  For this reason our chosen charities will be Eden Valley Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Care.

The idea for this challenge came about as a result of the sad death of Bill the husband of Sam Budd, a Penrith MIU nurse.  Sam from being a non-runner has set her sights on completing 2 half marathons next year to raise funds for the charities that offered most support during an awful time.

The route will be divided into 7 ten mile approximate sections.  The first section commencing at Wallsend where the runner/s will start at 0500 hours, aiming to finish at Carlisle Castle at 1900 hours.

One doctor will be running the whole route in one day, whilst one receptionist will be walking the whole route over four days.
